Is he close to day lighting? Hopefully he does it tonight, or the next two days. The Orange Army will be out again this weekend, pushing everything nocturnal again. When I say Orange Army, it has changed from what it used to be. A decade or more ago it was deer drives. Now there are some drives but not many. The Orange Army is now guys sitting in blinds. Make no mistake, this messes with deer movement just as much as driving deer. Maybe even more. Think about that for a minute. Good luck!

On the down hill side of peak rut! The does are less on edge and all deer are hitting food sources a little bit more than last week. Mature bucks are still looking for those couple girls that haven't came in yet. Good luck!

It is definitely on! And it is definitely hot too! Mind set is a huge part of hunting, will you be able to control your movement in the stand today? Sitting in this heat sucks and it will suck until it doesn't (when your target buck shows up). This means you need to believe that it is going to happen, the moment you loose faith, you will start squirming, playing on your phone, and not paying attention. If you can not control yourself in the heat and sun, wait for tomorrow. But remember it is 100% on right now! Good luck!

Have your pictures slowed way down? Does are getting tired of every buck that sees them coming over to sniff (3.5 year olds and older) or chase them (2.5 and 1.5 year olds). Now is the time to be in the stand whenever you can, they are all searching for a hot doe right now, if they are not with one. Good luck!

I am a firm believer that the moon has nothing to do with the timing of the rut. The rut is the same time year over year, but have you noticed a lot more rut activity by mature bucks already? I have and a lot of clients have this year too. I think it may have to do with the hot and dry weather we have had and are continuing to have. It may be pushing the does to come in early so that next year (if its hot and dry again), the fawns have a better chance of survival. Mother Nature will find a way!

First real cold snap of the year! Less movement than normal last night, so they should be moving better this evening!

As per usual, the acorns that were not aborted due to the dryness and heat, are dropping. If he disappeared that is most likely where he went. Pockets of EHD have hit Ohio again. Drastically less widespread this year though. Good luck!
